Ex-Roma chief Sabatini: Karsdorp wrong to go AWOL

Former Roma sports chief Walter Sabatini says Rick Karsdorp shouldn't have gone AWOL.

The fullback has skipped training in recent days as the squad prepares for a camp in Japan. The Dane was identified as the player coach Jose Mourinho told to leave the club after the draw with Sassuolo.

Sabatini told Sky Italia: "What would I have done if it had happened when I was there? I would have found myself in difficulty, not so much for the market but for professional and human reasons.

"Karsdorp made a serious mistake in not making the retreat, a footballer must follow the rules of the group.

"He will be a little upset, but he has no right to escape the rules."
