Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon was pleased with victory at Sevilla on Sunday.
Pressure has eased on coach Zinedine Zidane after the win.
And Calderon told AS: "The doomsayers, following the instructions of the president (Florentino Perez), had already thrown out Zidane. They were at the door waiting.
"It would not have been a good sign, not because I have something against (Jose) Mourinho but because it would mean that this project has failed. Those who had transferred the president's voice that Zidane no longer serves have had to eat that information for now.
"And I'm glad for Zidane and Real Madrid."
He also said: "Zidane was promised players and things they could not fulfill, among other things because there is no money to make those signings. When one spends €800m on a project there is very little room for maneuver. The problem is that there is no sport planning. There never was."
