Ex-Real Madrid midfielder Faubert urges Braithwaite: Grab this Barcelona chance

Former Real Madrid midfielder Julien Faubert has urged Martin Braithwaite to seize his chance at Barcelona.

Barcelona signed the Dane from Leganes as an emergency transfer due to the long-term injury to Ousmane Dembele.

Faubert was a surprise signing in Spain himself, joining Real Madrid on loan from West Ham in 2009.

"I focused on the positive things," he told France Football.

"Paradoxically, these positive things came from another country. From mine, they made jokes most of the time.

"From my adopted country, England, I was supported and praised because they saw what I could give on the pitch.

"I had lots of positive messages and I only concentrated on them, with paying attention to the negative stuff that was happened.

"It's the best thing you can do. Like I said: they didn't sign you to mop the dressing room.

"If they signed [Braithwaite and I], it's because technically we weren't bad on the ball.

"Barcelona, a bit more than Real Madrid, are known for their ability to keep the ball.

"For [Braithwaite], if he plays, he will have to adapt to the Barcelona philosophy.

"There's a great setup at Barcelona. You have to adapt, especially your movement, to perform immediately and show for the ball in triangle plays, for example."
