Former goalkeeper Bodo Illgner has jumped to the defence of Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen was underfire going into tonight's Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

"In Spain the reviews are different, especially for a foreign player," said the former Real Madrid keeper.

"He is experiencing it now. It is not easy, but he has to go through this.

"Ter Stegen must be careful not to get into a negative spiral."
