Danny Koevermans is looking to help make Toronto a 'soccer city' this year.

The Dutch striker, who had a big impact with eight goals in 10 matches after joining Toronto FC midyear last season, understands life is slightly different in North America with MLS clubs competing against other sports.

Ahead of Tuesday's CONCACAF Champions League clash with LA Galaxy at Rogers Centre, which is the home of Major League Baseball team Toronto Blue Jays, Koevermans is hoping that 2012 will be the year that puts Toronto on the Canadian sporting map even though this week will see them play in a different setting.

"No (it's not usual), but for Wednesday, it's not a baseball stadium, it is a soccer stadium," he told MLSsoccer.com.

"I've heard they've sold out. It's nice. I'm looking forward to it.

"I heard the (Toronto Maple) Leafs are out of a playoff spot, the Raptors are not doing so well and the Blue Jays are always in the same league with Boston, New York and Tampa Bay, so it's hard," p> "I'm hoping for 2012 that Toronto is soccer city, so we can make good things happen, especially in the league."
