Former Nice sports chief Julien Fournier admits they came close to hiring Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Fournier held talks with the then Ajax coach in 2021 before appointing Christophe Galtier.

He recalled: "My first choice before Christophe Galtier was Ten Hag.

"We met four times and when I say met it wasn't to have a cup of coffee and talk. But there were meetings to discuss a possible job."

Galtier eventually was hired before he left for PSG last summer.
