Former Newcastle United custodian Steve Harper has stated that Magpies boss Rafael Benitez needs a new striker rather than a goalkeeper.

Newcastle United are currently struggling both in attack as well as at the back but former Magpies star Steve Harper has stated that manager Rafael Benitez first needs to prioritize adding firepower to his side before thinking about signing a new goalkeeper.

He told Talk Sport: "I don't think there's one position in the whole squad where Rafa would think we're actually all right there. The priority has to be firepower.

"They're scoring less than a goal a game, so need goals badly. Probably a No 10 and an out-and-out centre forward, and then after that he's gone on and on about a goalkeeper.

"Personally, I think a major surgery needs to happen elsewhere before we should talk about getting a new goalkeeper."
