Ex-Newcastle defender O'Brien relieved to get Vancouver return out of the way

Andy O'Brien felt a sense of relief after making his much-talked about return to the Vancouver Whitecaps line-up on the weekend.

The 34-year old defender had been sidelined for two months with a hamstring strain but managed to get through 90 minutes as the Whitecaps lost 1-0 at home to the LA Galaxy and even though he was disappointed with the result, he was pleased to get through the match.

"I'm glad it's over to be honest with you," O'Brien told reporters.

"I felt like I've been like 'rent-a-quote' this week, but I'm glad to get it out of the way, but disappointed that we didn't win."

And 'Caps goalkeeper David Ousted was thrilled to have the experience and leadership qualities of the former Newcastle United, Bolton and Leeds United centre-half in front of him.

"I think Andy did good," Ousted said. "He's vocal, the same as me, and it's nice to have him down there. He did good, and I'm looking forward to seeing Andy get into a rhythm."
