Ex-Newcastle captain Martin confident Benitez not tempted by China

Former Newcastle United captain Mick Martin is confident manager Rafa Benitez isn't tempted by Dalian Yifang.

The Toon boss has just 10 days left of his current contract and is understood to be “considering" the approach from the Far East.

But Martin told the Evening Chronicle: "I'm not sure that this is the right time for Rafa to manage so far from his home in the Wirral.

"He is settled in the UK with his family.

"And it can't just be about money for him at 59, as he has managed for many years and is not concerned about finances.

"I also think it would be a massive gamble for Mike Ashley to start the season without Benitez - especially for an extra £10million or £15million.

"I hope the pair can resolve things soon."
