Former Olympique Marseille star Eric Carriere is backing the re-signing of Dimitri Payet from West Ham.

Carriere believes OM's new board see Payet's return as a transformative deal.

"Sportingly, it can not be a bad thing," said Carrière. "Dimitri has been growing for several years, at club level and even with the team of France. Mentally, he is strong. he will be a plus.

"(Rudi) Garcia knows the priorities, and they are certainly working in parallel with lesser known players in defence. But it is not with a fullback that they will make the fans dream.
