Ex-Man Utd youth chief McClair: Why Dele Alli was rejected - and Kane

Former Manchester United academy director Brian McClair has revealed they passed on signing Dele Alli at MK Dons.

McClair says the club was well aware of the Tottenham star as a teenager.

“The reports (from scouts) were that they just didn't fancy him," McClair remembered. “You are always going to get that. That is always going to be the case. They didn't fancy him.

“The biggest thing was trust, loyalty and respect with your staff - and they would have been the same ones who said 'You've got to get Giuseppe Rossi, you've got to get Paul Pogba.' They are not infallible."

And on Spurs teammate Harry Kane?

“We knew about him, but you weren't allowed to do anything," he added. “We knew about Dele Alli. We knew about all the players because there's not really that many at any age group."
