Former Manchester United star Mickey Thomas says Paul Scholes' retirement leaves a huge void to fill.

Thomas hopes United add to their midfield following the retirement of Scholes.

"United have been linked with Cesc Fabregas, but he will be a lot of money," he told the Manchester Evening News. "They are looking for another Scholes. A younger version of him. A midfielder with brains, who wins you matches, but they come at a hefty price.

"At his best Scholes was in the same bracket as Zinedine Zidane."
