Ex-Man Utd keeper Carroll to leave Odense for England return

Former Manchester United and West Ham United goalkeeper Roy Carroll wants to return to England.

Odense would prefer to keep him but appear resigned to his likely departure this month.

Thomas Christensen, director of football at Odense, said: "He will start training on Monday, just like anybody else. There have been no negotiations between Roy and us regarding a release him from his contract.

"Roy has our full understanding for wanting to return home but his contract is still running for another one and a half years.

"However, anything can happen and the transfer window is open for quite a while yet."

Northern Ireland international Carroll, 33, has been training with Ipswich but boss Roy Keane ruled out a permanent move to Portman Road.

Keane said: "He's a friend of mine from our United days. He's having a week or two with us and he's on a mid-winter break. Don't go jumping to any conclusions."
