Former Manchester City midfielder Paul Simpson wouldn't be surprised to see the club move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

Simpson believes the City squad is a striker short.

He told Sky Sports: "I think with only Dzeko and Aguero, Manchester City's attack needs another arrival of great class. It's enough to see the impact that van Persie last year made for United.

"Rooney to City? It can happen, anything can happen when a club with the potential spending of City, even for me he would be the ideal purchase."
