Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott reckons an England squad member will have leaked the story about team-mates Raheem Sterling and Joe Gomez.

Sterling clashed with Gomez when the pair met up for England duty on Monday.

The incident came a day after Gomez helped Liverpool beat Sterling's Manchester City 3-1 at Anfield in a huge match in the Premier League title race.

Lescott says it must have been one of the duo's team-mates who leaked the story.

“That's more disappointing, the fact that the detail of the story is getting out before anyone's kind of made a statement," Lescott said Sky Sports.

“The fact that the people in the squad, because I doubt there's catering staff being able to kind of find connections to the media links in order to get this story out, so it's got to be one of the players and that's disappointing to think that one of your peers and one of your squad members are leaking this kind of story with so much detail."
