Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge says he's ready to return to football.

Despite last playing football in February 2020, he revealed that he feels as good as he did during Liverpool's 2013/2014 season.

“Moving forward for me now I am driven. I know I have it. I know I am me. I am so confident. It is hard to explain it. I just feel it and people will see it," he said on the High Performance Podcast.

“I am training so hard now my playing weight is back where it was eight years ago. I am obsessed by the fact that I know I want to be what I was before and better that. I will be better than that. I am wiser now. I am older now.

“I didn't think I could get to that weight again. I didn't think it was possible. I am doing things I didn't think were possible.

"I'm proud of myself because I'm holding myself accountable, saying, you know what bro, you have got to go to bed now, or you have to do this, or you that's not for you, or don't do that, or I am going to link my friends, do I really need to link my friends if I have got to be up at eight tomorrow? No, I'm not going to link them."

He continued: "I am holding myself accountable for everything, so I am driven. I am motivated. I want to help a team be successful.

"I want to give young players the knowledge I have learnt and make sure they don't make any of the mistakes that I've made to help them be the best versions of themselves.

"That's important to me also, to help young players understand I've been through a lot but I've come out on the other side.

"I honestly feel at this present moment the best I have felt in 10 years. It's strange to say it but it's a feeling. It's an emotion and it's a feeling, and physically it is showing too, so I feel amazing."
