Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson has urged Jurgen Klopp not to select the kids against EFL Cup opponents Tottenham tonight.

Thompson, who spent four years at Anfield, believes that would be the wrong call to make.

He wrote on Instagram: “I'm hearing rumours Liverpool are considering playing a few youngsters tonight.

“Surely it's slightly disrespectful to the EFL Cup.

“If they are not being considered seriously at Premier League level then they shouldn't be playing here at this stage in the competition in my opinion.

“This is a good chance for Liverpool to bag silverware this season and should not be underestimated.

“I'm all for giving the youngsters a chance but only on merit."
