Ex-Leicester, Leeds defender Kisnorbo gets Melbourne City nod

Melbourne City FC has appointed Patrick Kisnorbo as captain for the 2014/14 A-League season.

The 33-year old centre-back, who joined the club in September 2013 when they were Melbourne Heart, has been handed the captain's armband by John van 't Schip on the eve of the new campaign which kicks off against Sydney FC on October 11.

The former Leicester City and Leeds United man was proud to be given the responsibility of leading the club who head into their first season under the ownership of Premier League giants Manchester City.

"I'm very humbled, honoured and proud to be appointed captain of Melbourne City FC," Kisnorbo said.

"We have a strong squad here that includes a great mix of youth, experience, local and international talent, and it is a privilege to be asked to lead it. It is an important responsibility and something I am looking forward to taking on.

"It has been a really exciting and productive off-season; the boys have worked hard as a group and we are expecting a competitive A-League season."
