Ex-Leicester defender Elliott backs manager Pearson

Former Leicester City defender Matt Elliott believes Nigel Pearson is the right man for the job.

The Foxes have fallen to the bottom of the Premier League table having lost eight of their past ten outings and not having won since their 5-3 triumph over Manchester United at the end of September.

Elliott, who was with Leicester from 1997 to 2005, is aware that things are not going great for his old club but is confident that Pearson has the ability to alter their run of poor form.

"It's difficult to put your finger on the exact reason why the form has gone how it has," the captain of the 2000 League Cup-winning Foxes told Sky Sports News HQ.

"After the Man Utd result everyone was ecstatic about the result and the performance but things have certainly taken a turn for the worse since.

"Leicester have had some difficult times under Pearson as manager. The season before last the wheels feel off to an extent in their push to automatic promotion but the owners persevered with Pearson and got the rewards.

"Last year they were convincingly the best team in the Championship and Nigel will be confident he can turn things around."

Of Pearson, Elliott added: "He is self-assured and confident about what he does in his role as a manager of a football club like Leicester and that confidence conveys itself to the players.

"He will carry on, regardless of anything happening off-the-field or any outside influence, to do the job to the best of his ability and one in my view that he is very good at."
