Ex-Juventus chief Moggi blames Inter Milan for Italy demise

Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi says Inter Milan are to blame for Italy's disastrous World Cup campaign.

The Azzurri suffered their worst ever World Cup campaign, going out bottom of the group without a single victory.

"We said our objective was to avoid Holland in the second round. Well, we did it!" smiled Moggi sarcastically in Il Sussidiario.

"Yes, I must say that I did expect such a poor World Cup, even if the entire tournament has been quite poor.

"Italy have reached a generational shift, but the same quality is not available. Unfortunately it's difficult to find good new players when the teams do not invest in their youth sectors and don't create talent.

"In the 2006 Final, Juventus had nine players between the Italian and French teams. Today Inter win everything and they have an entirely foreign starting XI. These are the results."
