Ex-Hull boss Dolan reveals how he landed reject Windass

Terry Dolan has revealed how he managed to sign Dean Windass first for Hull City.

The City boss needed just one day before he knew he had to sign Windass. He had been working on a building site and playing for non-League North Ferriby since the club had rejected him as a trainee.

Dolan told the Daily Mail: "My scout, Bernard Ellison, had seen him and said I should have a look. We knew Sunderland were interested and he had been on our radar for some time, so we invited him down to training.

"After 20 minutes I'd seen enough. He was the best player on the pitch and far better than some of the lads in the first team. Out of necessity we eventually played him up front and he never looked back."
