Ray Houghton has urged Celtic manager Neil Lennon to pursue Keith Andrews with vigour.
The 31-year old midfielder is out of contract at West Bromwich Albion prompting former Republic of Ireland international Houghton to persuade Hoops boss Lennon to make his move.
It is believed that Celtic and Andrews have already held talks, which have been put on hold as the ex-Blackburn Rovers man concentrates on this summer's Euros, and Houghton feels he would be a great inclusion for the Scottish champions.
"He also has a great engine, can get up and down the park and weighs in with the odd goal now and then.
"Six years ago he was scoring for MK Dons in the Football League Trophy Final at Wembley. Look at him now and he is recognised as an established Premier League player and a mainstay of the Ireland team.
"He will be testing himself against some of the best players in the world at the Euros when you consider the Irish will face Croatia, Spain and Italy.
"This boy can play and I would be absolutely delighted if Celtic signed him as it would be a real coup for the club.""Keith would be a tremendous acquisition for Celtic. He has a fantastic attitude and is a born winner. He loves a challenge and is not afraid to put his foot in," he told Record Sport.
