Ex-Everton and Real Madrid wing-back Drenthe announces his retirement

Former Everton and Real Madrid wing-back Royston Drenthe has announced his retirement.

The Dutchman, 36, has been with Dutch Third Division outfit Kozakken Boys.

He announced yesterday: "After consulting with the board I decided to leave the club and also stop playing football. I have a lot of respect for the club and will think about whether I can help over the next week.

"I don't want to be a coach anyway, but maybe I can find something in coaching.

“My focus now is on television work. There are some new and really fun projects coming up."
