Ex-Chelsea keeper Cudicini excited by Tottenham switch

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini is happy with his move to Tottenham.

Cudicini has arrived as back-up to Gomes and also to add competition for the Brazilian stopper.

"I met Heurelho Gomes and Ben (Alnwick) so it will be fantastic to work with them and we'll try to push each other," Cudicini said. "I think it will be a fair competition and that is good for the team.

"At this moment the team is not in the best position but it doesn't matter - I'm here to bring some experience and try to push this club forward."

The 35-year-old spent a decade at Stamford Bridge and has no regrets about swapping Champions League football for a Premier League survival battle.

Spurs are 16th heading into their clash against Stoke on Tuesday, with Cudicini in the frame for a debut.

"No-one expected Tottenham to be in this situation," said the veteran. "I think the team has the quality and the character to come out of this situation.

"It's five months until the end of the season and we have to fight in every game to get out of this situation as soon as possible. I hope I bring some points.

"I'm really happy with this choice. This was the time to find a new challenge and push for other success - and for the club as well.

"I was at Chelsea for 10 years - nearly a third of my life. It was a fantastic experience but now we move forward."

Cudicini was also star-struck on his first day at his new club when he worked with the club's goalkeeping consultant.

He added on Spurs TV Online: "It's been an honour. I met a great goalkeeper on the first morning - Pat Jennings. That was a fantastic start."
