Replacements are already being linked with Sammy Lee's job at Liverpool.
The Daily Mail says Lee has been abruptly removed from his role of assistant manager as Liverpool's revolution under Kenny Dalglish continues.
His sudden departure ends a long association with the club for the 52-year-old, who started his Anfield career as a schoolboy during the days of Bill Shankly and returned as Rafa Benitez's No 2 in May 2008.
The main contenders to replace him are Paul Clement, who left a similar position at Chelsea this week, and the club's former midfielder Gary McAllister.
