Ex-Blackpool striker Conroy: Ormerod can do job for Holloway

Former Blackpool striker Mick Conroy admits he's stunned to see his old club in the Premier League.

The Scot played for the Seasiders between 1998 and 1999.

Conroy told tribalfootball.com: "I can't say I ever thought I would see the day. Great credit to the coach and management staff, fantastic achievement, even if it only lasts a year.

"That's not to say they can't stay up, but we all know it is very difficult for newly promoted teams."

When at Bloomfield Road, Conroy played with current Blackpool favourite Brett Ormerod.

"I'm not surprised to see Brett back at Blackpool. He is from Blackburn not too far from Blackpool and I am sure after spending time with Southampton he would have been keen to move back to the North West.

"Having done so well at Blackpool originally he would have been a popular signing with the fans. Mind you, I believe he was at Preston earlier and that was a brave signing as Preston and Blackpool are big rivals."

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is using Ormerod sparingly and Conroy is confident his former teammate won't let anyone down when called on.

"Brett is capable of scoring goals at any level, but whether he can do it on a regular basis is another story.

"He has lots of pace and always gives 100% and can cause any defence problems with his will to win. Scoring goals at that level consistently might prove difficult, though."
