David Villa has scored the first-ever goal for New York City FC today.
The Spanish star netted with a neat finish from close range in the 33rd minute as the MLS expansion franchise defeated St Mirren 2-0 at the City Football Academy in Manchester.
NYCFC captain Villa controlled a low cross with his left foot before knocking it back into his path with his right thigh before firing into the back of the net from just outside the six-yard box.
The new MLS side will continue their pre-season preparations for their debut campaign with another friendly against Danish side Brondby on Sunday.
So proud to score the first goal in the history of @NYCFC. Good job from the whole team. Let's keep working hard! pic.twitter.com/O06cd2aey8
