Ex-Barcelona presidential candidate Font: Flick won't fix deep-lying problems

Former Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font says changing the coach won't fix the club's deep lying problems.

Font, speaking with RAC-1, insists replacing Xavi with Hansi Flick won't end Barca's issues.

He said, "Yes, I see the team's play. But what I say is: be careful because if we change Xavi for Flick and we don't change anything within the club, the chances that it won't work are great.

"Winning a League does not guarantee success; the great frustration is how winning is sometimes a problem.

"The 2015 treble brought problems: the problems were buried with the successes and we entered the worst stretch in the club's contemporary history. A good diagnosis must be made."

Font again took aim at Barca president Joan Laporta over the departure of Leo Messi.

He stated: "The great mistake of his mandate and of the contemporary history of the club. I think it was part of the solution and we are not aware of the cost, not only sporting. It was important to make the transition. The last pass, the goal, economically helped us implement the shock plan.

"With a world champion in Messi, think about the Barça brand. I was with his father and brother and they are very focused on this new stage that excites them."
