Former Barcelona B coach Gerard Lopez says Jorge Cuenca could handle a first team call.

The young centre-half is in the frame for promotion as Barca coach Ernesto Valverde battles defensive injury concerns.

Lopez told Sport: "Barça signed Jorge Cuenca two seasons ago and I can attest that he is a safe bet because he was at my service in the reserves.

"He is a tall player, with a good quality on the ball and trains like a lion, we took him from Madrid and he showed his ability.

"If Valverde needs him, he can be rest assured."
