Ex-Atletico Madrid captain Godin slams Felix: He played for himself; he never understood the club

Former Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin has taken a swipe at Joao Felix.

Felix has hit the ground running at Barcelona after leaving Atletico on-loan last month.

Godin declared: “He could never understand what Atlético was and what that locker room was. I was no longer in that locker room nor has any teammate told me anything about him. I haven't asked either. But he could never adapt to the situation of what the club required.

"In my time we tried to set a path, we made it clear that the group is above any individuality. And from the outside it seemed to me that in his case it was not like that, that he was thinking more about himself than about the team.

“Later, what deal he had with Cholo , with the directors, I don't know. What is also true is that the fans had attitudes that they did not like. It was evident in the stadium. They whistled at him. His face, his gestures when he was substituted, when he didn't play, were evident. From annoyance, anger and those things, people see them and make you feel them. It is impossible to be comfortable in a place where people don't love you. And he, I don't know the problems he had with who, but it is evident that he was never comfortable and people never supported him, and in the end he could not perform..."

The Uruguayan refused to consider whether in his time they would have been able to bring the Portuguese back into the Atlético locker room, with people like him, Gabi, etc.

"Don't know. I am very careful because at Atlético I have friends, there are Koke , Griezmann ... Saying that is like 'these guys didn't know how to turn it around and we did'. I don't know what they did to try it. I don't know what would have happened. Maybe we would have done things differently.

" We had difficult players but I think we knew how to get into them. I don't like to compare, the dressing rooms are different, the eras. We had a locker room in which we were family, friends, we defended each other to the death on the field."

Asked if it bothered him that he was successful at Barcelona, he stated: "I have nothing against Joao Félix. Do not know him. We also can't talk about winning for two games, we're going to let time pass and see how it goes."
