AZ Alkmaar have signed former Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar.

Vlaar, after coming off contract at Villa in June, suffered a knee injury, which has kept him sidelined for the past three months.

The Dutchman has been doing his recovery with AZ, which announced they have now signed the defender.

Vlaar has penned terms with AZ to the end of this season.

The defender is expected to be fit for the second-half of the Eredivisie season.
