Ex-Arsenal captain Gilberto pleads with Wenger: Shake-up coaching staff

Arsenal hero Gilberto Silva has urged Arsene Wenger to shake up his backroom team.

The Brazilian World Cup winner says the Gunners boss needs a fresh face on his coaching staff to boost the club's chances of ending a seven-year trophy drought. And he believes his former team-mates Dennis Bergkamp and Tony Adams fit the bill.

"It is probably a good idea to bring someone in to help Arsene," Gilberto told the Daily Star.

"Even though Pat Rice and Boro Primorac are great people to have around him, it might be the time to have a new coach come in to freshen things up with some different ideas.

"Dennis or Tony would be extremely popular with the fans and would give the club a big lift.

"They could also help take some of the pressure off Arsene, who takes so much on his shoulders.

"He has Pat and Boro there, but he is the one who is responsible for what happens at Arsenal and I know from my time at the club he takes a defeat like the one at Milan extremely badly.

"It hurts him more than anyone because he wants so much for Arsenal to be successful and would love nothing more than for them to win the Champions League.

"I am sad to hear some supporters are questioning him. They should remember what he has done for the club in the last 15 years and continue to have faith in him."
