Ex-Ajax, Barnsley midfielder Gorre commits to Scottish football

Dean Gorre has left Holland to join Scottish Football Association performance director Mark Wotte.

The 41-year old former Ajax, Huddersfield Town and Barnsley midfielder was working with Dutch legend Johan Cruyff in Amsterdam but has decided to answer a call from good friend Wotte to help with the youth players of Scotland by taking the U17 coaching role.

"Mark and I have a history so it was an easy choice to leave Ajax," he said.

"I've lived in Manchester for the last 12 years, so my family is more or less English.

"Two of my sons play for Manchester United, Kenji for the Under-18s while Aidan is seven and plays for the kids' side.

"They weren't going to be happy if they had to move to Holland. I worked with Johan Cruyff for seven months at Ajax, but by then I knew I wasn't going to stay. When this offer came from Mark, straight away I was enthusiastic about it.

"It wasn't a case of turning my back on Cruyff, I was more turning my back on Ajax and going to work for the SFA.

"Johan was straightforward about it. He's a man who only thinks about football and he's got Dennis Bergkamp, the de Boer brothers, Marc Overmars and Jaap Stam all there.

"He's happy with my decision to come to Scotland. He knows family is very important."
