Everton have announced that midfielder Darron Gibson is to undergo surgery after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Everton have announced that midfielder Darron Gibson is to undergo surgery after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Gibson was carried off on a stretcher after injuring his knee in a first-half challenge during the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan in Dublin on Tuesday.

A statement on the Toffees website said: "A subsequent scan showed he has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the midfielder will require an operation. The length of time the 25-year-old will be out will best determined once the surgery is completed."
