Everton players fully back chairman Kenwright - Cahill

Tim Cahill says the Everton players are fully behind chairman Bill Kenwright despite the current position of the club. The Toffees are in trouble financially as Kenwright continues to look for potential suitors to purchase the Merseyside club and even though some fans staged a protest against the club's board prior to Saturday's clash with Aston Villa at Goodison Park, Cahill insists that everybody is behind the chairman even if some supporters want investments to be made within the playing group.

"We're fighters, it was a bit ugly in stages but we made sure that we gave everything and tried to make sure that the fans realize that these players are good enough," he said following the 2-2 draw with Villa.

"This squad is good enough, (so is) the manager and we'll deal with anything that's thrown at us but the main thing is is we support the chairman 100% and that's the way it's got to be because as much as we (the players) have helped make the club, he's helped make us too, so we really appreciate it and we respect the fans and the whole club in general."

During the match, Kenwright appeared on the big screen and received a standing ovation from some Everton fans and Cahill feels that reception was warranted.

"It's as hard for him as it is anyone and the club is for sale and he tried his best and he's trying to make things happen," he added.

"Obviously today you see the quality of the players but the main thing is, is that the fans out there do really appreciate him and it's nice because for us as players, we don't know the ins and outs of everything, but we do understand that his heart's in the right place and sometimes that can affect him as a chairman because he probably loves the club too much.

"Us as players, we've just got to support what's going on and make sure that these fans who are not happy believe in us more."
