Everton make first offer for Carlisle defender Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton have failed with a first offer of £500,000 for Carlisle United defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Daily Mail says the offer is understood to entail substantial add-ons for the 17-year old who has already established himself in Carlisle's first team squad.

However, the League Two side know they can push for a bigger fee amid interest from Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Watford.

Branthwaite is a composed left sided centre back who has made 14 appearances this season and doesn't turn 18 until June.

Everton are keen to strengthen their options at centre back and are among the clubs to enquire about 20-year old Jean Clair Todibo at Barcelona.
