Everton legend Kevin Ratcliffe feels Gareth Barry has had a big influence on Ross Barkley's rising star this season.
Ratcliffe is a huge fan and believes on-loan Manchester City midfielder Barry has played a major role in Barkley's rise, allowing him the freedom to express himself.
He said: "Barry has been excellent. He is the man who has allowed Barkley to play.
"Without him Barkley would not be the same player. He's that valuable."
And Ratcliffe has not been as excited about a young Goodison talent since Wayne Rooney hit the headlines, aged just 16, back in 2002.
He said: "Barkley is special. We saw Wayne Rooney come through as a kid and this lad has got something as well."
