Everton insist there's no crisis after chief executive Keith Wyness' resignation this week.
A club spokesman said: "The board will meet in about a fortnight to discuss the situation."
Everton are also unlikely to advertise the post because they believe the opportunity to take charge of one of the country's biggest clubs should provoke a list of high-quality applicants.
It is expected Robert Elstone, chief operating officer and deputy chief executive, will take on the job in a caretaker capacity.
