Everton hero Ball accuses Onana of 'hiding'

Everton hero Michael Ball has accused Amadou Onana of "hiding" in defeat to West Ham.

He wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "The West Ham United game was an opportunity for Amadou Onana to dictate the play for Everton but he looked to me like he was hiding.

"When he came on against Manchester City, he knew the world was watching him, he was up against the best team in the world and he wanted the ball. Onana wanted to showcase his ability at the Etihad Stadium but I didn't see any of that against West Ham United side who were much lesser opposition.

"Yes he showed for the ball but he wasn't proactive enough. There were no forward passes or running with the ball 10 or 15 yards to break the line of that midfield.

"West Ham weren't trying to press Everton, they haven't got players like Idrissa Gueye who trying and nick the ball off you in midfield, hurry and harass you. They were sat in their formation and you just hope that Onana could grab the game by the scruff of the neck and show his quality and try and pass the ball in between the lines to cause issues.

"We need more from players like him in these moments."
