Everton are chasing Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell.
The Daily Star says the Toffees tried to land their former star on loan in January and came close to a deal before City's failure to sign Porto midfielder Fernando on deadline day scuppered the move.
However, Goodison boss Roberto Martinez remains a keen admirer of the England midfielder and will now look to secure a permanent deal.
Rodwell left Everton for City in 2012, but he has made just 26 appearances in two years at the Etihad Stadium and is not rated by current boss Manuel Pellegrini.
