Everton have distanced themselves from claims made by Niko Kranjcar that he turned down an offer from the club.
After completing a switch from Portsmouth to Tottenham this week, the Croatian revealed that he decided to join Spurs over Everton.
But Toffees boss David Moyes said the club was not even interested in Kranjcar.
"Not at any point did anyone from the club contact Portsmouth to express an interest in Niko Kranjcar," Moyes told the club's official website.
"In Steven Pienaar and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov we already have players who provide excellent cover in his chosen position."
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright also denied the claim, stating: "I couldn't believe my eyes when I read what Kranjcar is alleged to have said.
"We made no approach either to Portsmouth or to the player's representatives; maybe he was talking about Everton Chile."
