Everton defender Mason Holgate was delighted with the clean sheet for their rout of Manchester City.

Holgate was delighted with the performance but insists the standards have been set.

“It has set the benchmark," he told evertontv. “As defenders we always go out and try to get a clean sheet. Doing it against one of the best strike forces in the league shows that we can do it against anyone.

“It's a result that we won't forget in a hurry. It was one of those games where every one of us turned up on the day. It was a great result for the team but especially for us defenders.

“When you are playing against a side like Manchester City, with players who can score goals at any time, to keep them out is great.

“They had a few glimpses of goal but not too many direct chances. We did well and it is definitely a big positive for us."
