Everton youth chief Joe Royle is delighted with the impact of U21 coach David Unsworth.

Royle also praised the approach of Unsworth as the former Everton defender begins his second season in charge of the young Blues.

“He's doing a great job," Royle told evertonfc.com. “He's a very modern coach in that he's sympathetic. I grew up in a regime whereby coaches seemed to think it was progressive to tell you how bad you are and accentuate all your faults.

“David is very much the opposite - he's full of encouragement, full of good ideas and he coaches with a smile every day."
