Everton boss Silva hints Stekelenburg set to leave

Everton boss Marco Silva admits Maarten Stekelenburg's future is in doubt.

Silva has heaped praise on Maarten Stekelenburg - Jordan Pickford's deputy - but the 36-year-old has been restricted to just two cup appearances this season and enters the final 12 months of his contract in July.

Joao Virginia is due for promotion from under-23s football next season after winning the Premier League 2 title.

"The first thing I have to tell you, because it is the truth, is that he has been fantastic since the first day," Silva said of Stekelenburg, an unused sub in all 37 league games so far.

"Big credit to him for that. And he will be fantastic until the end because we are talking about a very, very good professional.

"His behaviour everyday in training is fantastic, even if he knows that we will be playing Jordan. He is training hard everyday and always ready to help.

"At the end of each session we normally do some finishing and he and Joao are always ready to help."
