Everton boss David Moyes says Yakubu Ayegbeni wanted to leave in the summer.
Moyes has admitted for the first time hitman Yakubu wanted out of Goodison in the summer, with West Ham keen to sign him.
But the Hammers' £6million bid did not even come close to the Toffees' valuation of the player.
Moyes, whose side face Newcastle today, said: "He would have liked to leave but we never received an offer high enough.
"Because of that, he has never really got himself in the right frame of mind. But now his focus is much better and so is his training. He did well when he came on last week.
"We thought he was worth more than the £6m we were offered - then the next one came in at £5m!
"Yak has a great scoring record in the Premier League and I hope he'll prove that with more goals.
"He's back in contention to play, though I'm not sure yet about playing 90 minutes."
