Everton boss David Moyes has praised Australia coach Holger Osiek for allowing Tim Cahill to play through the festive period.
Moyes revealed that the Blues' influential midfielder was initially due to depart for the tournament in December, but the Socceroos boss allowed Cahill to depart closer to the start of the competition.
"We've known that for as long as the calendar has been in place this season that we were going to lose him, and he leaves now," said Moyes.
"We are thankful that we got him for a couple more games - the Australian manager was very good with us and left us with him for a few games and we are pleased about that."
