Everton boss Martinez: Deulofeu will return fully fit and firing

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has no doubts on-loan Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu will bounce back from his hamstring injury.

Deulofeu is expected to return to action at the start of February.

Martinez told the Liverpool Echo: "I feel he will be back as a re-energised player. What an injury gives you in a negative sense, that frustration, it can also help him to finish the season really strong

"We know the final eight games of the season are going to be vital. Gerard has done so well for a 19-year-old to fight his way through and become so important for the side. I always expected him to start to have an impact in February so actually he's been two months ahead of what I expected.

"So for him to have a set-back now is going to allow him to come back refreshed for that final third. That's a real positive.

"If he would have played through the Christmas period it would have been a gamble.

"I don't know what level he'd have hit in those crucial last run of games, because he's never been at this intensity before.

"You never want to lose players through injury, but in this case we're happy to work with Barcelona to get him back re-energised and ready to enjoy his football."
