Everton boss Koeman: Time for Barkley to buck up

Everton boss Ronald Koeman is seeking a response from Ross Barkley after a tough couple of weeks.

Barkley was an unused substitute in last weekend's 1-1 stalemate at Manchester City as Koeman opted for a different tactical approach against Pep Guardiola's side.

“Maybe last weekend was a good wake up call for him," said Koeman.

“In my opinion, it was the best line up to have the best chance against Man City last week. His reaction was positive. He was disappointed, but he is training well.

“We played a little bit differently than normally. I did not start with him but it could be different at the weekend.

“He is already been playing for four years in the first team and you are not 'a talent' any more. It means you have to show you have improved.

“If I am not totally happy, or it is tactical, then he does not start."
