Everton boss David Moyes has challenged Mikel Arteta to prove he can be the Toffee's middle man on a permanent basis. Moyes has primarily used Arteta on the flanks but insists he has the quality and experience to become an imposing force in a central midfield.

"Mikel's performance at Tottenham was the Mikel Arteta we have all come to know - maybe he was really suited to the role we had him in," Moyes told the Liverpool Echo.

"He arrived at the club as a central midfielder but he has become so effective in wide areas and been such a threat that we have used him there."
