Everton battling Atletico Madrid to sign River Plate striker Rafael Borre

Everton are pushing to sign River Plate striker Rafael Borre.

AS says Everton are chasing the 24-year-old River Plate forward, who is also thought to be high on the radar of Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid.

The Colombia international has caught the eye since his return to South America and Everton may face difficulties in securing a deal.

Borre began his career at Deportivo Cali in his native Colombia, scoring 14 times in 16 appearances and earning a move to Atletico Madrid in August 2015, signing a six year deal.

He was immediately loaned back to Deportivo Cali while he later enjoyed a loan spell at La Liga rivals Villarreal.

In August 2016 Borre joined Argentina side River Plate and has since shone in Buenos Aires, scoring 18 times in 54 appearances.

However, Atletico own 50% of the player's rights and are interested in moving him to the Spanish capital, giving them an edge over the Blues in the coming January transfer window.

Everton, though, are prepared to pay €15m to bring Borre to England next month.
